Sock of Love Holiday Initiative
Sock of Love Holiday Initiative
For the holidays SARAH was gifted with a generous donation and asked to do “something” for a family or families in need this holiday season. In our December meeting we asked ourselves who was the most needy at this time and the answer did not take long to arrive. The number of homeless people on the streets is increasing as we speak.
We knew we could get creative and really stretch that seed money so we watered it and it doubled. Instead of helping a few families with our original donation, we would help 300 people.
We know these families have a very hard time providing a nice Christmas for their children so we collected toys, shoes and books. We also bought with some of our gift Payless Shoe gift certificates, movie passes, and more toys. On Christmas day, Santa and 2 elves were at the location where the families come for what is often their only meal of the day and we handed out our loot.
On January 22nd we returned to take our turn to feed everyone a warm lunch of pasta, chicken (Thanks Christaki’s Greek Cuisine) salad, rice, bread and desserts. Thanks to all the SARAH Sisters who donated the balance of the food!. Then we got to hand out the 300 pairs of socks that we stuffed with a water bottle, toiletries, a snack and other life’s necessities.
We will also be distributing to the children Packages of Love donated by Pillar Academy Muslim Day School, complete with a hand written note, crayons, activity books, snacks, and an assortment of thoughtful offerings.
Thank You to all the generous donors who helped us double our seed money!
SARAH loves Christaki’s! Please frequent often!
Each sock was tied with a ribbon and this inspirational message of Hope and Love...
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves: Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." ~ MARIANNE WILLIAMSON
